Summary
"Part of my work as a researcher at the National Institute of Anthropology and History has consisted of disseminating the heritage values that Xochimilco has through the publication of articles and books; the giving of lectures and presentations; the mounting of photographic exhibitions, and technical and academic advice, among other activities. In this way, for several years I addressed various topics, which allowed me to build up a broad database that later resulted in this work as a dictionary. Heritage values are attributes of the cultural heritage of a town, which generate feelings of identity and belonging in its population that distinguish it from any other. Likewise, the dissemination and reproduction of heritage values strengthens the sociocultural construction of the people, since they are common and emblematic assets.Xochimilco is a place with great natural and cultural diversity. This ancestral heritage is found in the chinampas, the canals, the Historic Center, the temples, the plazas, the archaeological sites, the civil and religious festivals, the veneration of images of saints, virgins and baby Jesus icons such as the Niñopa, the myths and legends, the ancestral rituals, among other cultural elements. For the Xochimilca, their past is present in their daily life; they know they are the custodians of a legacy that must continue through the new generations.".
