Summary
Documentary on the life and work of Vladimir Lenin, told in three parts using extensive archive footage and photographic stills. Part one, "A Spring Of Hope" is an illustration of the general social conditions prevalent in pre-revolution Russia. It explores Lenin's political activities, his exile to Shushenskoye in Siberia, and the formation of the League of Struggle for the Emancipation of the Working Class. Part two, "The Spring Of The Offensive" explores the events of 1917 and 1918: the fall of the Tsarist regime, political transition, the Bolsheviks' struggle for peace with Germany, the October Revolution, the creation of a revolutionary army and the assassination attempt on Lenin. Part Three, "The Spring Of Victory", includes the Soviet Government move to Moscow and Lenin's work to consolidate political power and implement socialist policies, as well as Lenin's ill health and move to Gorky. Concludes with the work for the electrification of Russia, including the development and construction of hydro-electric plants. Includes footage of the Winter Palace after it had been stormed in the October Revolution, of the cruiser Aurora and the Smolny Institute, of Russian troops heading to the front line and the conference for the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.Shots include the following; stills of early revolutionaries in the late 19th century, early shots of St Petersburg. Stills of Tsarist Russian middle classes, a priest blessing factories, villages, destitute peasants moving to the cities.
