Socialism on film is a collection of films produced primarily in the communist world and re-editied for British and Western audiences. The works by Soviet, East & West European, African, Asian, and Latin American filmmakers created from the early 20th century to the 1980s, depicting themes of war, history, current affairs, revolution, news, current affairs, culture and society from a socialist perspective. The films can be searched by subject, people, place, country of production, production company, genre, subject era, and language, or using an interactive map or chronology. Genres include: animation, biography, campaign film, documentary, drama, interview, and newsreels. The films are sourced from the British Film Institute (BFI), including the ETV-Plato Film collection of Stanley Forman. Secondary material include interviews and essays about the material.
