Biographical / Historical Note
Hans Richter (1888-1976), German-born painter, film theorist, film producer, director, and writer.
Summary
Collection contains writings, correspondence, and other papers chiefly documenting the professional life of artist Hans Richter. Writings include drafts and printed versions of articles and lectures by Richter on such topics as modern painting and aesthetics and experimental film and film history, as well as one longer, unpublished manuscript entitled Film and Progress. There are letters between Richter and his son-in-law, Standish Lawder, and with museums and publishers. Other correspondents include Renate Albrecht and Hans Maria Wingler. Other papers include autograph notes, photographs, clippings and printed ephemera relating to Richter, and financial records.
