Actual data collection was caried out in the offices of the Church Growth Research Center at the Church of the Nazarene Headquarters, Kansas City, Missouri. The data collection was managed by Rich Houseal, Program Manager for the Research Center, under the supervision of Dale Jones, who served as committee liaison for that purpose.

Summary
The 1990 Church Membership datafile has ten records for each of the 3,105 counties in the U.S. Each record has three identification files followed by information for each of 148 specific denominations. For each denomination there are seven variables: denomination code, denomination sub-code, number of churches, number of members, number of adherents, percent of total population and percent of total adherents.
