Summary
Videotape testimony of Stanley O., who was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1920. He recounts growing up in Mińsk Mazowiecki; attending high school in Warsaw; a pogrom in Mińsk Mazowiecki in 1936; military training in 1939; German invasion; identifying himself as a non-Jew when his unit was imprisoned by Germans; escaping to Warsaw; obtaining false papers; smuggling food to his family in Mińsk Mazowiecki; his father and brothers moving to Warsaw; joining the Polish underground; arranging hiding places and false papers for his father, brothers, and other Jews; paying blackmail and bribes; delivering guns to the ghetto underground; the ghetto uprising and its destruction in 1943; arrest with his father in the Hotel Polski; incarceration in Pawiak (his father was executed); escaping through the sewers; fighting during the Warsaw uprising in 1944; enlisting in the Polish army; military training in Łódź after the war; moving from Breslau to Germany; and emigrating to the United States in 1951. Mr. O. describes a recent visit to Warsaw with his wife and shows photographs, documents, and the book "The Case of Hotel Polski."
