Biographical / Historical Note
Leo Dohmen (1929-1999) was a Belgian Surrealist photographer, active in the post-war Antwerp artistic circle. He is associated with the Internationale situationniste movement and often collaborated with Belgian surrealist and situationist Marcel Mariën.
Guy Debord (1931-1994) was a French author, Marxist theorist, and cultural critic who was a member of the Lettristes and a leader of the Internationale lettriste and the Internationale situationniste groups. He is known for his work, La société du spectacle (Paris : Buchet/Chastel, c1967).
Summary
Photographs of Guy Debord and other participants at the 6th Conference of the Internationale situationniste in Antwerp, Belgium, taken by Leo Dohmen in November 1962 and printed circa 1990s. Images include portraits and scenes of men and women socializing and drinking in bars and restaurants. Also included is a double exposure portrait of Dubord that appeared in the first edition of his book La société du spectacle (Paris : Buchet/Chastel, c1967).
