Edward Mangin (1772-1852), Irish author of Huguenot ancestry; lived in Bath, England; author of "The Deserted City," a poem about Bath in summer, parodying Oliver Goldsmith's poem "The Deserted Village."
Summary
Autograph manuscript poems, letters to editors, and other writings by Mangin, 1806-1834 and undated, apparently copied by Mangin circa 1834-1852, with annotations and pen-and-ink illustrations. Some contents relate to the Napoleonic Wars or to Mangin's family and associates in Bath, and some annotations refer to publication of his writings in the Bath Chronicle, the Bath Herald, or other newspapers. Bound with a printed copy of The Deserted City: a Poem (Bath: Printed and sold by M. Gye, Market-Place; sold also by the booksellers of Bath and Bristol, 1805).
