R. M. Ballantyne, Scottish author of juvenile fiction and artist.
Summary
Contains 120 autograph letters, signed, from R. M. Ballantyne chiefly to his wife, Jane "Jeanie" Grant Ballantyne; other letters are addressed to his mother-in-law Mrs. Grant; one letter is to Reverend G. Bainton; and one is addressed to "Emma." There is one letter to Ballantyne from publisher Thomas Constable. The letters date 1867 to 1894. Included is a manuscript poem "(Reply to 'Father, dear father come home')," signed and dated Capetown, 1876; plates removed from an unidentified book; work for keyboard, autograph manuscript, 1806, titled "Miss Randall S. Grant's Strathspey," composed by Ballantyne's father, Alexander Thomson Ballantyne, for his mother, Miss Randall "Anne" Scott Grant, before their marriage in 1806; and several empty envelopes.
