Laureate-draped and cuirassed bust r., rev., Victory aug., Victory standing facing, holding wreath and palm (RIC 25).
Balbinus, Roman orator, poet and statesman, appointed in 238 by the Senate as joint emperor of Rome and murdered the same year by soldiers of the Praetorian Guard at Rome. (The New Century Cyclopedia of Names, ed. Clarence L. Barnhard [New York: Appleton-Century-Crofts, Inc. 1954] col. 1, p. 318).
