Biographical / Historical Note
LeRoy Levinson was born in Ridgewood, New York on July 9, 1905, received his B.S. from City College of New York in 1922, and his medical degree from New York Unversity - Bellevue Medical School in 1930. He did his post-graduate medical education at St. John's Hospital, Long Island City, New York. After about two years in Ridgewood, Queens, New York, he served as a general practitioner for the rest of his life in Middle Village (Rego Park), New York. "He was the consummate family physician -- totally devoted to his profession and his practice. He delivered babies and then delivered their babies. In a long career he truly cared for the whole family." Dr. Levinson was affiliated with St. John's Hospital throughout his career and died there on March 17, 1986.

The course notes consist of hand-written notes, mimeographed handouts, and two filled-in workbooks. The subjects are physiology, neuroanatomy, medicine, pathological physiology, pediatrics, gynecology, neurology, therapeutics, and hygiene and vital statistics. The laboratory workbooks are Alexander S. Chaikelis, Laboratory Exercises in Physiology (New York: City University of New York, Department of Biology, 1926) , and J. H. Globus, A Laboratory Aid for the Study of Neuro-Anatomy (New York: Paul Hoeber, 1926). The physiology course was probably taken in Levinson's senior year at City College of New York.
