Biographical / Historical Note
Sir Peter Johnston Freyer, a pioneer urologist, was born in Ireland and obtained his M.D. from Queen's College. After serving two decades in the Indian Medical Service, he returned to England in 1897 and became surgeon of St. Peter's Hospital for Stone in London, where he developed an operation for the complete removal of the prostate. He wrote two monographs on urology and in 1920 became the first president of the newly created section of urology at the Royal Academy of Medicine.
Summary
Scrapbook in which journal articles by P. J. Freyer have been pasted. The first page contains the hand-printed monogram CHF and the date, London, 1913. This suggests that perhaps a relative created the scrapbook. The title page is also hand printed. Opposite the title page is a note : "from Mr. Freyer to Geo. M. Laws." The articles are on urological surgery and especially on the removal of the prostate, and date from 1901 to 1912. Toward the end of the scrapbook there is a handwritten page by George M. Laws titled "Post operative treatment" and dated London, 1913.
