The full length of the open cover and extended banner is 181 cm; the length of the open cover with the banner folded and tied is 65 cm.

A color illustration of the exterior of the San Carlos de Borromeo Cathedral in Matanzas is seen through the scalloped opening in the front flap of the portfolio, which is decorated with a photographic reproduction of floral patterned lace; a decorative paper collage of the Vigía lantern adorns the back of the portfolio. The handwritten poem is reproduced between decorative borders on the front of the banner, which folds and ties with package ribbon; has a pasted on cut-out of lace flowers, leaves and the author's name. The poem is printed on a single sheet folded and affixed to the back of portfolio binding, secured in place white ribbon. The interior is a picture of Carilda Oliver Labra made with paper cutouts and netting.
