Summary
Bharata natyam is an art form traditionally performed in Hindu temples by women considered 'married' to the deities ... With fast footwork and beautiful costumes, bharata natyam tells stories, and in one dance ... 'translated' the movements ... which amount to a form of sign language. Includes interviews with musicians, dancers, and Kalakshetra K.P. and Katherine Kunhiraman, the directors of the troupe. The interviews explore the religious and cultural traditions underlying Bharata-Natyam, the techniques of music and dance, and the dancers' personal backgrounds. Commentary is interspersed with dance performances, accompanied by live music.
