On verso of cover: "The original is dated about the year 1193 of the Christian Era, and was discovered on a stone pillar in the city of Sukhoday, the capital of Siam at that period."
Actually, a portion of the inscription of King Rama Gamhen of Sukhodaya (1292 A.D.). The stone pillar having the inscription was discovered in 1833 by the future Rama IV (Mongkut), King of Siam. In 1836 the task of deciphering the inscription was turned over to a commission of scholars.
