Scrapbook assembled by an unidentified creator, containing offprints and clippings of writings by Sachs and newspaper clippings about the Verein der Plakatfreunde, most from Berlin newspapers, 1907-1935 (boxes 1-2); and printed material relating to the Verein der Plakatfreunde, 1914-1922 (box 3), Das Plakat, 1912-1921 (box 4), and Hans Sachs, 1957 (box 4). Some items are identified by brief manuscript annotations.
Writings by Sachs, from the Mitteilungen des Vereins der Plakatfreunde, Das Plakat, Archiv für Buchgewerbe, and other German periodicals, are about the Verein der Plakatfreunde, posters, poster artists, book design, and other subjects relating to commercial art. Some writings include color plates of posters or samples of paste papers or picture postcards. Printed material relating to the Verein der Plakatfreunde includes a list of members, 1914; “Der Verein der Plakatfreunde, 1905-1915: ein Rückblick,” 1916; annual reports, 1917-1922; and advertisements soliciting new members, circa 1920. Printed material relating to Das Plakat include copies of issues for 1914 July and 1920 June, and annual indexes for 1912, 1914, and 1917-1921. Printed material relating to Sachs consists of an autobiographical essay, in English, with reproductions of photographs of Sachs and a bibliography of his writings, 1957. Additional autobiographical writings are present in the scrapbook.
