Karl Arndt (1903-1991) was an American scholar of German-American history specializing in utopian societies, including the Harmony Society. He was a professor of history at Louisiana State University, 1935-1947, and Clark University, 1950-1969.
John Duss (1860-1951) was one of the final trustees responsible for the financial and legal business of the Harmony Society, 1890-1903. Duss joined the Harmonists, a communal and pietist religious society, with his mother and brother during the 1860s, and lived with the community intermittently for the remainder of his life. Duss published The Harmonists: A Personal History (Philadelphia: Porcupine Press, 1943), a memoir and history of the Harmony Society.
