Edward F.J. Hills. 1863-ca. 1955, born in Littlehampton, England, came to Canada in 1883. He spent a year in Ontario before joining a Dominion Land Survey party which surveyed several townships near Carlton, Saskatchewan. He arrived in Calgary, Alberta in November 1884, and for many years worked as a cowboy on various southern Alberta ranches. He acquired his own ranch near High River, called the Echo Glen Ranch. He and his wife, Nora Griffin, returned to England ca. 1908 for several years, operated a coffee plantation in Kenya until the early 1930s, then retired once more to England where he died.
