Summary
An account depicting the struggle for independence from the French colonial regime in French Indo-China. Scrolling text outlines the recent history of Vietnam. Scenes of the mountains, coast, a temple and the Mekong. Footage of industry and poverty. Photographs of Ho Chi Minh declaring independence for Vietnam in September 1945. Narration regarding the organisation of the People's Army in response to the bombing of Haiphong and footage of warfare. Civilians walk along mountain paths, train with rifles and sabres and plant mines. Footage of Ho Chi Minh working alongside other government members. Scenes of munitions assembly and further scenes of warfare. Women voting, irrigation schemes and a literacy campaign. The printing of pamphlets featuring Lenin. Ho Chi Minh visits the peasants. Military planning, artillery drills and river crossings. A cache of captured weapons and captured enemy soldiers. Victorious soldiers are cheered, presented fruit and dance.
