Summary
A documentary about the history of the Russian Communist Party. [WARNING: scenes featuring dead soldiers.]. Features rich archive material of the Russian Revolution period in St. Petersburg, including newsreel footage of the February Revolution with Tsar banners being pulled down and prisoners being released. Also shows demonstrations against Kerensky and the bourgeois Provisional Government in the July 4th riots. Discusses the October Revolution, the storming of the Winter Palace and the All Russian’ Congress of Soviets the next day. Recounts how the USSR formed in 1922, followed by the difficult early attempts at industrialisation and agricultural reform, including the first five-year plan in 1929. Covers the electrification and industrial projects of the 1930s, the Second World War and its aftermath, modernisation in the 1950s, and new towns and scenes of life in the 1980s.
