Summary
Archive compilation of the final year of the Second World War. The film opens with the 1944 battle for Budapest and the march on Hitler’s headquarters at Rastenburg. It also covers the Soviet capture of Gdansk, crossing the Vistula and Oder rivers, the liberation of Vienna, and the meeting of US and USSR troops on the River Elbe at Torgau. The second half of the documentary looks at the Yalta conference and the battle for Berlin, including the capture of the Reichstag. It concludes with moving scenes of soldiers returning home and the June 1945 Red Square Victory Parade.
