Summary
Documentary exploring the strength and resilience of the Russian people in rebuilding their cities and their lives following the Second World War. [WARNING: contains scenes of dead bodies and injured children]. Includes footage of victory celebrations, soldiers on the front after peace is declared, and their return to their villages. Images of grieving for the war dead, memorial ceremonies and funerals. Footage of the draining of the Donbass mines, as well as women coal miners. Also features scenes following the conclusion of the Leningrad and Stalingrad sieges, the postwar famine, drought and crop failure. The rebuilding of villages and factories, return to education, and the return of orphans from concentration camps is also shown. The film concludes by addressing the foundation of the UN in 1946, with clips of President Truman playing baseball contrasted with scenes of devastation in Hiroshima.
