Biographical / Historical Note
Zane Grey (1872-1939) was an American author of Western novels. Circa 1933, Grey established Zane Grey, Inc., a production company that managed motion picture adaptations of his works.
Summary
1 autograph letter, signed, from Zane Grey to his wife Lina Elise “Dolly” Grey describing his first trip to the American West with frontiersman, rancher, and conservationist Charles Jesse “Buffalo” Jones. Grey describes the journey, his relationship with Jones, and his search for writing material on the trip. 1 typescript letter to Zane Grey from his son Romer Grey (1909-1976) requests that his father return home from a 1933 fishing trip in New Zealand to attend to his finances. Romer Grey asserts that the finances of Zane Grey, Inc. are precarious and the publishing and motion picture markets in the United States are uncertain. 1 manuscript draft of Romer Grey's letter is significantly longer and more detailed than the typescript letter.
