Summary
Autograph manuscript commonplace book, containing sections devoted to arithmetic lessons, medical recipes and treatments, and cookery recipes. The arithmetic lessons include multiplication, weights and measures, and the rule of three. The medical recipes include elixirs and syrups for colic, dropsy, kidney stones, "nervous complaints," and the plague, as well as ointments and salves for gout, boils and skin irritations. The forty pages of cookery recipes, which are written dos-a-dos and may be in a later hand, include directions for preparing main courses with meats and fish, puddings and other "made dishes," and baked items including cheesecake and sugar cakes.
