Chapman and Hall originally issued the Household edition of Dickens's works in 101 monthly parts from July 1871 to January 1880; this edition was issued in parts in the United States by New York Book Concern. Each volume was subsequently issued individually in wrappers and publishers' bindings by D. Appleton & Co. Christmas books began in part 76 (October 1877) and concluded in part 79 (January 1878).
