Sheb Oatman traveled by wagon with the Parks family from Mason, Texas, to Fort Quitman, Texas, from 1879 June 11 to 1879 July 15. He later continued on to New Mexico with the Parks family, who settled in Lordsburg, New Mexico.

Autograph diary, signed, kept by Sheb Oatman during an emigration by wagon across Texas, 1879 June 11-July 15. Oatman begins the diary with his joining the Parks family in Mason and concludes writing at Fort Quitman. Recorded are observations concerning Oatman's impressions of places visited, notes on landscape and environmental conditions, and views on Native Americans and African Americans.
