Summary
"What is a photographer?" Like all artists, the photographer creates something out of nothing. Instead of a blank canvas or a block of marble, the photographer is able to walk into a room and create a work of art from what is there, just by framing it in a lens. Japanese photographer / provocateur Nobuyoshi Araki is noted for the broad territory he photographs, from erotic bondage to Bjork, plaintive landscape to intimate portraits of his beloved, dying wife. While the best photographers help us see the world in a new light by taking the ordinary and making it exceptional, it is left to the viewer to decide if Mr. Araki is one of those photographers.
