Summary
This story focuses on theatre arts as a vehicle to address Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). In February 2012, the Public Health Division of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) coordinated and hosted a four-day intensive training workshop entitled: Using drama for community education and behaviour change. Participants developed a script and produced a play that promoted testing for HIV and other STIs, as well as consistent condom use. SPC's Regional Media Centre videotaped the plays so they could be used as educational tools and learning/teaching resources. It was agreed that using drama for community education and behaviour change is the way forward in the race to change individual behaviour and reduce the rate of new STIs in the Pacific region.
