Summary
Host Joaquin Soler Serrano interviews Brazilian writer, Jorge Amado, in 1980 for Spanish television about his early life on a cacao plantation in Bahia, and his popular novels that deal with the exploitation of poor workers who find joy in carnivals, music and sports. He was imprisoned and exiled for his leftist activities by the military dictatorship, but after winning international awards, he was invited to join the Brazilian Academy of Letters. Amado discusses his novels, including the best known "The Violent Land," "Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon," and "Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands'.
