Summary
This video covers the complete history of mining from the discovery of coal in the Welsh valleys in the 17th century to the destruction of the British coal industry. It covers the age of the coal masters, the formation of the unions, the years of de-industrialization, nationalization, cheap imports, the strike-ridden 1970s, and the final defeat of the unions. In many ways, it provides a concise history of the past 300 years with particular reference to the 20th century, a history that has much in common with that of all other Western nations.
