Summary
This data collection contains measurements of civil strife for 114 nations for the period 1961-1965. Data are provided for three basic forms of strife: conspiracy, internal war, and turmoil, and for all types of strife taken together, as well as for the predicted magnitude of strife, measures of deprivation, and measures of mediating variables. Variables that measure three characteristics of strife for each nation are pervasiveness, duration, and intensity. Measures of deprivation include economic and political and long- and short-term deprivation. Indices of deprivation include economic discrimination, political discrimination, potential separatism, dependence on foreign capital, religious cleavages, and lack of educational opportunities. Measures of mediating variables include legitimacy, coercive potential, institutionalization, past strife levels, and facilitation of strife.Cf: http://doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR05009.v1
