Summary
This special topic poll, fielded on January 3, 1996, sought respondents' views on the federal government shutdown and the role that President Bill Clinton and congressional Republicans played in its development and its ongoing status. Those queried were asked whom they blamed for the shutdown and for the failure to end it. Additional topics covered whether the shutdown was a good or a bad thing, whether respondents had been personally inconvenienced, and whether they believed that the White House and Congress were honestly trying to end the shutdown. Background variables include sex and political party.Cf: http://doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR06827.v1
