Jane Howe (1913-2006), born Mary Jane Wild in Loveland, Colorado, was educated at Brown University. She married diplomat Walter Howe (1907-1966), who served as Director of the United States Operations Missions to Colombia from 1954-1956 and as United States Ambassador to Chile from 1958-1961. The Howes had four sons, and resided in Connecticut and Virginia prior to and after their service in South America.
Margaret Mather Byard (1910-2005) was a Scottish-American literary historian, teacher, and musician. After graduating from Smith College in 1933, she married lawyer Spencer Byard (1908-1992) and, in 1962, obtained a PhD in English from Columbia University.
