Summary
It developed from primitive tribesmen into an empire with kings that for a brief period rivaled the pharaohs of Egypt. But the Nubians could not match Egypt's might and by the middle of the 6th century AD, the Nubian empire was lost. In the early part of the century, archeologists from America and Europe began to excavate. They unearthed the remnants of a black African kingdom and inside the royal burial mounds, they found evidence of a bizarre culture of deaths, where hundreds of people were buried alive.
