Summary
The concert opens with Suppé's "Light Cavalry" Overture. The center of the program is devoted to Mozart, as 2006 was the so-called "Mozart Year," celebrating the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth. For the K. 453 Piano Concerto in G major, the Cleveland Orchestra is joined by pianist Leif Ove Andsnes. Soprano Dorothea Röschmann, in a last-minute substitution to the program, performs two excerpts from The Marriage of Figaro. This is followed by three works by Johann Strauss.
