Summary
Ottawa is Canada's capital city, with a distinctive cultural center blending old and new architecture; much of which can be seen boating its Rideau Canal Waterway. Parliament Hill, visible throughout the downtown area, is one of Canada's most recognized landmarks and the seat of Canada's federal government; it too is the site of the "must see" Changing of the Guard. The National Gallery of Canada houses the world's largest collection of Canadian art, including a section devoted to contemporary Inuit art. The Canadian Museum of Civilization is the country's largest and most popular cultural institute; located on the shores of the Ottawa River, it presents over 10,000 years of Canadian pre-history, history, and culture. The National Museum of Science and Technology chronicles the technological development of Canada, including the Gregorian reflecting telescope and important logging machinery. Here too we witness the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride, an evening of traditional entertainment with a troop of 32 horses and riders performing cavalry drills choreographed to music. Our intro to Toronto brings us to popular attractions such as Ontario Place, Harbourfront, Power Plant, Craft Studio, and CN Tower. We also explore the Toronto Zoo, the world's third largest zoo, which displays over 5,000 animals in a zoological park complete with ponds, waterfalls, and floral displays.
