Biographical / Historical Note
Miners in Amador County, California went on strike in 1934 for better wages and working conditions, led by the International Union of Mine, Mill, and Smelter Workers Local #48 (also called Mother Lode Miners #48). The strike ended in 1935, when mining companies refused to meet the miners' requests.
Summary
Collection of ephemera documenting the Amador County miners' strike, compiled by an unidentified creator, 1935. Includes 5 mimeographed strike bulletins (numbers 49, 50, 54, 55, and 59) published by Local #48 of the International Union of Mine, Mill, and Smelter Workers. Bulletins included lists of strikebreakers, updates from strike headquarters in Jackson, California, and a satirical play. Also includes a broadside entitled "Amador Countyites who carried guns against striking miners," a pamphlet entitled "Compare the records on labor issues of Hon. Chas. H. McKenny and Hon. A. Caminetti nominees for senator in the tenth senatorial district," and several newspaper clippings about the strike.
