Summary
Beginning in 1830, the first program presents the Paris of revolutionary theater, the Romantics, and the neoclassicists. It also deals with the impact of the Restoration and the Paris Commune on the arts?Racine, Balzac, and Hugo in literature; Jericho and Girodet in art; Chopin and Liszt in music. The appearance of the feuilletons and the erection of the Arc de Triomphe, the Pantheon, and the Place de Concorde take viewers on a nostalgic tour of a bygone Paris era. (French, 14 minutes)
