Biographical / Historical Note
Lloyd Winter (1866-1945) and E. Percy Pond (1872-1943) began Winter & Pond, a photography studio, in Alaska circa 1893. In 1945, Winter turned the business over to Francis Harrison, who maintained the studio until 1956.
Summary
Photograph album with photographs taken by Winter & Pond of Alaska scenes, 1894-1895. Depicted are Tlingit (including Chilkat, Auke, and Taku) and other Alaska Natives (some of whom are identified), as well as Indigenous villages, totem poles, and graves at Dyea, Wrangell, Sitka, Chilkat, and Juneau--4 photographs are of a potlatch at Chilkat. Other photographs show miners on the Chilkoot Pass, the Treadwell Gold Mine, Muir Glacier, and landscape and town views.
