Lawyer Richard L. Clayter, Jr. was born on July 28, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Englewood High School on Chicago's south side. He earned his B.A. degree in sociology at DePaul University; his M.A. degree in social work at Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work, and his J.D. degree at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He is a World War II veteran. In 1958, he represented the Charles S. Jackson Company in its lawsuit against the Oak Wood Cemetery.
