Summary
Molecular biologist and professor William Walden was born on October 13, 1954. He received his B.S. degree in biology from Morgan State University in 1976 and his Ph.D. in molecular biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 1983. In 1987, Walden became an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago's College of Medicine in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. He was promoted to associate professor and associate department head in 1992 and full professor in 2004. Walden served as co-chair of the Campus Promotion and Tenure Committee and was a fellow of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation-Academic Leadership Program from 2006 to 2007. In 2006, he was also appointed director of the Office of Graduate Diversity Programs. In 2007, Walden became the Special Assistant to the Provost for Diversity. He published numerous research articles, and reviewed papers in top scientific journals including Science, EMBO Journal, Blood, and Journal of Biological Chemistry.
