Aerospace engineer and federal administrator Woodrow Whitlow, Jr. was born on December 13, 1952 in Inkster, Michigan. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in aeronautics and astronautics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1974, 1975, and 1979, respectively. Woodrow's long career with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) began in 1979, when he was hired as a research scientist at the NASA Langley Research Center. In 1994, Whitlow became the Director of the Critical Technologies Division in the Office of Aeronautics at NASA Headquarters. He then moved to the NASA Glenn Research Center in 1998 where he served as the director of research and technology. Whitlow became director of the NASA Kennedy Space Center in 2003 and oversaw launch-related activities until 2005, when he was appointed to Director of the NASA Glenn Research Center. In 2010, Whitlow was named the Associate Administrator for Mission Support at NASA Headquarters.
