Summary
City government administrator Stephen Williams was born on June 10, 1956, in Waycross, Georgia. He earned his B.A. degree in sociology and social work from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, and his M.Ed. degree from Alabama's Auburn University. Williams earned his M.P.A. degree at Baruch College, City University New York through the National Urban Fellowship program. From 1995 to 2004, Williams served as administrator of public health, deputy director of Travis County's Health and Human Services and Veteran Service Department in Austin, Texas. In 2004, he was named the Houston Department of Health and Human Services' director of public health. Under William's administration, the department launched community outreach programs such as Project Saving Smiles, See to Succeed and Assessment, Intervention, and Mobilization. Williams served as chairman of the Texas Department of State Health Services Public Funding and Policy Committee, and as an adjunct professor for the University of Texas School of Public Health.
