Summary
Vera L. Ricketts was born in October 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis. She received her B.S. degree in pharmacology from Butler University in Indianapolis. Ricketts first served as a pharmacist for Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., before joining Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, also as a pharmacist. In 1966, Ricketts became a founding member of the Theta Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in Los Angeles. She co-founded the Inglewood Pacific Chapter of The Links Incorporated in 1979, and in 1981, was selected president, auxiliary to the National Medical Association, serving through 1982. In 1983, Ricketts was elected president of The Links Incorporated, Inglewood Pacific Chapter, serving through 1985. In 2017, Ricketts and husband, the late Dr. William Newton Ricketts, M.D. were recognized for over 30 years of international service to the people of Haiti.
