Manuscript diary written by an unidentified woman documenting her railroad journey from Massachusetts to California and back, 1885 April-June. Entries contain accounts of social events and passengers on the train and descriptions of sites in Massachusetts; Ontario, Canada; Chicago, Illinois; Kansas City, Missouri; Pueblo and Denver, Colorado; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Yuma, Arizona; San Francisco, California; Salt Lake City, Utah; Nebraska; Indiana; and Michigan. Present are entries describing silver mines in Colorado, Native Americans in New Mexico and Arizona, the passengers being entertained by state governors in California and New Mexico, Chinatown in San Francisco, and Mormons and the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.
