Biographical / Historical Note
Henry Dundas (1742-1811), 1st Viscount Melville, was a Scottish politician. He served as Secretary of War for Great Britain from 1794-1801.
John Reeves (1752?-1811) was a British magistrate and civil servant.
Patrick Colquhoun (1745-1820) was a Scottish magistrate. He was the founder of the Thames River Police, the first preventative police force in England.
Summary
Collection of correspondence and documents relating to the internal and external defense of London. Includes eight letters addressed to Henry Dundas from John Reeves about forming a committee that will plan the defense of London. Also includes documents written by Dundas and Patrick Colquhoun about the London preventative police force, which documents the number of troops to be stationed at specific locations in London.
