Biographical / Historical Note
Sarah Ann Airay (1718-1790) was born in Westminster, London. In 1751 she married Benjamin Watson (1715-1771), a wine merchant. Her father was John Airay (1689-1764) and her sister was Elizabeth Airay (1724?-). John Airay's father was Christopher Airay (-1670).
Summary
Collection of correspondence, writings, and other papers relating to members of the Airay family. Includes the will of Christopher Airay; the baptismal certificate and will of John Airay; letters from John Airay addressed to Benjamin Watson discussing family matters; a commonplace book belonging to Sarah Ann Airay containing poems, epitaphs, and prose; and a commonplace book belonging to Elizabeth Airay containing moral sayings. Also includes receipts; notes; a manuscript notebook containing the Airay family genealogy, written by A. S. Watson, possibly Annabella Sarah Watson; and typed notes on the Airay family genealogy, written by an unidentified author. Also includes two locks of hair belonging to Sarah Ann Airay.
