Biographical / Historical Note
The Wheelers were a Quaker family in Cranfield, England. Joshua Wheeler (1755-1803) married Elizabeth Tuke (1755-1826) in 1795 and their three daughters were Esther Wheeler (1798-1864), Sarah Wheeler (1799-1885), and Mary Ellis (1801-1857).
Summary
Collection of memoirs, correspondence, transcripts, and other papers relating to members of the Wheeler family. Includes a manuscript notebook, in the hand of Mary Ellis and Sarah Wheeler, detailing the memoirs of Joshua Wheeler (1635-1711), Joshua Wheeler (1704-1749), Rudd Wheeler (1720-1807), and Joshua Wheeler (1755-1803); a manuscript letter book, in the hand of Mary Ellis, containing extracts of letters from Sarah Grubb; a manuscript notebook, in an unidentified hand, providing an account of a yearly meeting of the Society of Friends in 1807; a manuscript notebook, in the hand of Sarah Wheeler, containing religious poetry and verses; a commonplace book, in the hand of Joshua Wheeler (1755-1803), containing epitaphs; and a letter book, in an unidentified hand, containing letters written by members of the Wheeler family and a pen and ink drawing of the family home in Cranfield. Also includes a notebook, in the hand of Mary Allcard, titled A True Copy of a Letter Written by a Parent to his Children at Ackworth School in the Year 1790.
