Summary
"Over 60 years, Paul Gruhler has produced an extensive oeuvre of paintings, drawings, and paper collages, all within the framework of geometric abstraction, in which the deliberative arrangement of color, line, texture, and scale have the aim of evoking sensations of harmony. His work has experimented with variations of color and their relationship to form. In developing the colors for each work, he mixes paints on a one-time basis: once finished, he can never replicate that particular color. Because Gruhler doesn't work with variations on a theme, but creates each piece individually, the process itself is a dynamic conversation with the materials: working within the self-imposed framework of color and line is integral in his artistic drive to make order and harmony of all that is inchoate"-- Provided by publisher.
