Summary
This volume is Shell's first comprehensive external publication on the geology beneath the Chukchi Shelf. Elements of this work have been presented orally and in poster form at various technical conferences during the past decade (e.g., Wilhelm et al., 2009; Bergman et al., 2011; Homza et al., 2011a, b; Shepard et al., 2011; Scheidemann et al., 2011). As many readers are aware, Shell suspended operations in Alaska for the foreseeable future in late 2015 after disappointing results from the Burger J well. With this suspension came the scattering of personnel, local geologic experience, and data. When (or if) another lease sale will be held in the Chukchi Sea remains uncertain. Thus, it is in the spirit of knowledge preservation in the midst of an uncertain future that we present this Memoir that represents a current snapshot of Shell's overall geologic interpretation of the area.
